BILL NEAL, PRESIDENT – “I believe in public service, giving back, and most of all that it is never wrong to do the right thing. I hope the HOA will responsibly and adequately represent the folks who live here.”

Bill and his wife Fran were high school sweethearts and have been married for 55 years. Bill has engineering degrees from the University of Pittsburgh and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He worked for 28 years at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, then started and operated his own company for 26 years. Bill has a history of civic involvement, including being a Justice of the Peace and serving on a number of Boards. He says he is most proud of being a Scoutmaster for 14 years. Hailing from Connecticut, Bill and Fran visited a friend in Golf Village, liked it here, bought their house as a getaway place, and then decided to make it permanent.

CHUCK KOONS, VICE PRESIDENT “I joined the HOA because I want to stand up for the residents of Golf Village. I believe we need to become activists to ensure that we’re shown the care and respect we deserve.

Having served 26 ½ years in the Army, including 2 tours of duty in Vietnam, Chuck brings a new perspective to the Board. Past Commander of the VFW and member of the American Legion, Chuck has worked pro-bono at the VA and Vet Centers assisting veterans to submit claims and receive their benefits. After retiring from the military and earning degrees in Business Management and Administration, Chuck worked in the private sector, the last 15 years with Toshiba America. Chuck is now fully retired and ready to share his experience and expertise with the Golf Village community.

SUSAN GEORGE, SECRETARY – “The HOA has the potential for being a truly vibrant organization. The key is member participation. I hope we can get members excited about, and more involved in, the HOA.

In 2016 Susan and her husband Ernie sold their home in Allentown, PA, put everything in storage and went looking for the right place to settle in sunny Florida. They found Golf Village and the rest is history. Susan has (finally) retired from 40+ years as an RN. She now works a few evenings at the clubhouse, which still leaves time for exercise, reading and writing projects. They do miss their 4 kids and 7 grandkids in PA and MA, but Susan says, “It’s just a short flight to get the hugs we crave.”

DOREEN VANBUREN, TREASURER – “I have no regrets about moving to Golf Village. We joined the HOA to become involved in the community and meet more people, and we’ve made a lot of good friends and memories.”

Four years ago Doreen and husband John moved to Golf Village from Easton, PA, happily leaving the cold and snow behind.  The Van Buren’s are blessed with 3 children and 4 grandchildren scattered near and far, so they do their share of road trips. Doreen enjoys sewing, card-making and knitting and can often be seen at the clubhouse or walking through the park. Doreen says she recently started to learn how to play golf but warns, “Don’t stand too close to me when I swing the club!”

SANDI PIERCE, MEMBERSHIP COORDINATOR / SUNSHINE COORDINATOR – “I got involved with the HOA because I want to meet my neighbors and help in any way I can. I want to see our community continue to be safe, offer many amenities for our residents, and be an amazing place to live.”

As that rare thing, a Florida native, Sandi says she loves it here and can’t imagine living anywhere else. Sandi and her husband John have lived permanently in Golf Village for the past 3 years. She’s a “retired” teacher of 42 years, but has recently found time to substitute in 2 local elementary schools. In addition to work and spending time with John and family near and far, Sandi stays busy walking, reading, sewing, crafting and playing cards.

2/19/22 – The Board has appointed Chuck Koons to serve as Vice President for the remainder of the open term. We welcome him to the Board.

2/13/22 – The current officers in the positions of President, Secretary and Treasurer were unopposed in the annual election held on 2/3/22. They will serve for 2-year terms. The position of Vice President remains open. This will be a Board appointed position for the remainder of the term, i.e., until the next election in February 2023. Anyone willing to fill the position should contact a Board member. Snowbirds are more than welcome!

10/5/21 – We’re pleased to announce that Bill Neal has agreed to serve as interim President on the Executive Board. As a long-term HOA member and current co-chair of the Dispute Committee, Bill has already demonstrated his commitment to the SLGV HOA. We look forward to his leadership through the rest of the President’s term.

10/1/21 – We are sorry to say that Terilynn Quinn won’t be able to help out as interim VP at this time. Back to the drawing board! Please let us know if you are willing to fill this position for the remainder of the term.

9/14/21 – We are happy to announce that we have found an interim Vice President, Terilynn Quinn. Terilynn brings great energy and pertinent past experience to the Board of Directors. We look forward to introducing her at the next General Membership Meeting.

9/3/21 – Summer is over and we are now ready to fill the vacant positions on the Board. We plan to appoint 2 members to fill both open positions on an interim basis for the remainder of each 2 year term. The president’s term ends in February 2022 so an election will occur in February for the position of president. The vice president’s term ends in February 2023. If you are interested in filling one of the positions, please contact the Board on the HOA email [email protected] to set up a meeting to discuss the position. We know not everyone is interested in serving on the Board, but we hope that every one of you will consider becoming active in some capacity in the coming season. The HOA is YOUR organization, and only with an involved membership can we have the kind of organization that we all want.

7/3/21 – We have received emails from some folks indicating interest in the open positions, which is much appreciated. We have, however, decided to table further action until September when we, the 3 remaining Board members, can meet with candidates.

6/17/21 – There are 2 critical vacancies on the Board of Directors. Anyone willing and able to fill the open positions by Board appointment for the remainder of 2021 to please contact us. Hopefully we’ll be able to conduct annual elections in February as outlined in the bylaws to establish an official elected Board for the coming year.
